Geaux fiBR aims to bring Google Fiber for Communities to Baton Rouge

Background on the Google Fiber for Communities

In February 2010, Google announced they are planning to develop ultra-high speed broadband networks to between 50,000 and 500,000 homes in America at a competitive price (read more from Google here.) The speed of these networks is 1 gigabit per second, or over 100 times faster than what is available today. They issued a Request for Information (RFIs) from communities throughout the US, to which Baton Rouge is responding. As you can imagine, almost every community is eager to be chosen.

There are two parts to the RFI: an official response from the city and a community response. Geaux fiBR is spearheading the community response in coordination with the official response from the City of Baton Rouge. And we want the community response to be just that! Please use the form on the front page to give us your ideas on what you would do with this kind of network to your home or small business. No idea is crazy (and sometimes the crazy ones are the best). We plan to use these ideas to convince Google that Thinking BIG with a GIG should begin right here in Baton Rouge.

We are pleased to support this initiative to enhance the broadband network for the City of Baton Rouge community! Baton Rouge is one of the fastest growing cities in America and well as an emerging technology base.

Anatomy of a "Rich-Media" Webcast

Anatomy of a "Rich-Media" Webcast

A "rich-media" webcast is an on-demand or live internet broadcast in which the presentation viewer (interface) provides the user with a "real-life" experience just as if he/she were attending the presentation face-to-face. The "rich media" interface has the presentation components (video; powerpoint graphics; etc.) synchronized into one dynamic format.  The advantages of utilizing a rich-media webcast include: increased visibility, extending your connectivity with your audience during and after the event, and leveraging content through traditional and viral marketing methods.

Benefits of Webcasting

A very common question we encounter on a weekly basis with potential clients is "what are the benefits of webcasting"?  While each client has their own industry-specific needs, we have seen the invaluable benefits for our clients by:

  • providing an alternative engaging format for persons who could not attend a conference
  • extending the lecture content to a wider audience by making the presentations available to those who could not attend the meeting
  • capturing multiple lectures simultaneously
  • gain a valuable real-time (synchronized) recording to accurately review and obtain viewer feedback
  • leveraging sample or short clips of the actual presentation content to send to prospective audience members
  • providing opportunities for increased branding identity for sponsors
